On January 20, 2025, the students of grades 10,11 and 12 – some 170 students in all! – had the chance to see the American Dram Group Europe performance of „The Great Gatsby“ in Burghausen town hall. The play is based on the world-famous novel by Francis Scott Fitzgerald, which gives the reader/spectator a most interesting insight into the dazzling life of American society of te 1920s.

The Stage version of „The Great Gatsby“ is about the myssterious Jay Gatsby and his unfulfilles love for Daisy Buchanan. The role of the narrator is taken over bay the character Nick Carraway, who moves near Gatsby and witnesses his lavish parties and his obsession with Daisy, who is already married to the rich tom Buchanan. Tragedy reaches a climax as Gatsby tries to impress his love with his newly acquired status and wealth. Despite his hope of eing able to reserve his past mistakes, it ultimatley leads to his tragic failure.

The play deals with various themes such as love, social class and the American dream. The atmosphere is characterized by both seduction and hope.
